The Foot Fetishism Theories

A foot fetishism is a pronounced sexual interest in feet. It is the most common form of sexual fetishism for otherwise non-sexual objects or body parts, and is more prevalent in men than women.

A neurologist Professor by the name of Vilayanur Ramachandran believes that the manifestation of a foot fetish may arise because the feet and genitals occupy adjacent areas of the brain’s somatosensory cortex. He believes that there may be some “neural crosstalk” between the two brain areas.

Desmond Morris, zoologist, ethologist and surrealist painter, as well as a popular author in human sociobiology considered foot fetishism the result of mal-imprinting at an early age, the tactile pressure of a foot/shoe being important in this. Freud’s reading of foot-fetishism also involved early imprinting; but he considered the smell of feet to be of significance as well.
